CEOs, IR people, Business Development guys throughout the junior resource sector knew that if they put a press release out my friend and partner, Charlie Hodgkinson would be on the phone or in their email pitching Motherlodetv.net (MLTV) that day.
I actually got to know Charlie back in the early 2000’s when I was doing communications for Evolving Gold and the then CEO, Robert Bick, passed Charlie along to me to say, “No.” Which never stopped Charlie. He was a salesman to his fingertips and “No” was just a pitstop on the way to “Yes”.
We worked together to supply junior resource content to the Financial Post and then with OnPage Media and ResourceClips and then as partners in Motherlodetv.net. It has been a wonderful, interesting and sometimes lucrative nearly 20 years.
Charlie has been smart enough and lucky enough to make what is technically known as “a metric buttload” of money on an entirely unrelated deal. Charlie, being a man of simple pleasures, has decided to retire in style.
He has handed me the keys to the Motherlodetv.net kingdom and wished me all the luck in the world. It’s been a great partnership and I will miss having the sales and business end “handled”.
I am going to be spending most of August reconfiguring and reimagining Motherlodetv.net. It was put together in haste in another era. An era in which actually finding junior resource press releases was tough. Now you can tell Grok to do a daily summary of the companies you are interested in and, well, it’s done.
What is not “done” are the CEO interviews and company commentary. AI is good at summaries, not so good at understanding the value in a junior’s story. That’s what MLTV and my companion substack, Talking My Book https://jaycurrie.substack.com/ are about.
In the next few weeks I hope to recruit a number of other insightful contributors for MLTV. There is a lot of excellent commentary out there but, frankly, it is often hard to find. I think MLTV could become a clearing house for the best of the Substackers.
So, bear with me as I set up to relaunch MLTV, missing Charlie but with new worlds to conquer.
